Department of Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness Awards
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, part of the US Department of Homeland Security, has $33.7 million for first responders through the 2007 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program.
The CEDAP was created two years ago to aid emergency preparedness efforts. The Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program has awards for law enforcement, fire, and emergency responders. These equipment and emergency training awards consist of five categories:
- Personal protective equipment
- Thermal imaging
- Night vision capabilities
- Video surveillance
- Chemical detection
- Biological detection
- Information technology
- Risk management
- Interoperable communications equipment
Because each state should have their own homeland security strategy, these CEDAP emergency preparedness awards are coordinated with their individual planning strategies. This will maximize these assets for disaster response throughout the regions.
